The Ministry of Health and Welfare Taiwan has announced Revisions to its standards for food additives.  

The primary revisions address the following: 

  • Magnesium stearate can be used as food processing agent, and is only allowed to be used in foods of unconventional shape, including capsule, tablet, and pressed candy, the dosage of which should be determined per production demand. 
  • Calcium carbonate can be used as a food processing agent and nutritional fortification substance in Japan. The limit for usage of calcium carbonate has been deleted this time, which should be used as appropriate per the production demand. 
  • The standard for components of peracetic acid and peracetic acid preparations has been revised. No other substance can be used as the raw materials of peracetic acid and peracetic acid preparations except diluted aqueous solution for glacial acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, 1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid and octanoic acid. 

The revision was announced on June 23, 2017.
